Otakar Šuffner (born 23 April 1989) is a Czech entrepreneur and co-founder of the trading company FTMO, where he serves as chief executive officer. He founded the company with Marek Vašíček while they were university students. FTMO later expanded internationally and acquired the online broker OANDA in 2025.
Early life and education Šuffner later attended the Prague University of Economics and Business, where he met Marek Vašíček through a student trading group. Their shared interest in financial markets led them to rent an office while they were still students.
FTMO Šuffner and Vašíček began developing a business based on their experience with retail trading while they were university students. Their project was initially rejected in startup competitions, and they subsequently developed the business without institutional investors.
In 2015, they launched Získejúčet.cz, a project designed to evaluate traders and address the lack of capital available to successful retail traders. The service expanded internationally and was renamed FTMO in 2017. Šuffner became chief executive officer, while Vašíček became chief technology officer.
FTMO subsequently expanded internationally. It ranked first in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Central Europe ranking for three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023. As the company grew, Šuffner's role shifted from operational and product work towards strategy, partnerships and acquisitions. In 2023, Šuffner and Vašíček jointly received the EY Technology Entrepreneur of the Year 2022 award in the Czech Republic.
As Šuffner and Vašíček remained the sole owners of FTMO, their business success also led both founders to appear in Czech wealth rankings published by Forbes.
In 2025, FTMO agreed to acquire OANDA, an international online brokerage group, from funds managed by CVC Capital Partners. The acquisition was completed on 1 December 2025 after receiving regulatory approval.
In March 2026, Šuffner and Vašíček became co-chief executives of OANDA following the departure of Gavin Bambury. FTMO and OANDA continued to operate as separate companies.
